Robert Joseph Slaney
July 24, 1936 – January 31, 2019
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Robert Joseph Slaney announce his passing at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville, NL on January 31, 2019 at the age of 82 years. A devoted family man, businessman, and outdoorsman, Bob was loved and respected by many. His children can attest that his love of family is what sustained him through the many challenges he faced throughout his long and well lived life. Bob’s passion was fly fishing and would often say that when his time came he hoped it would be « on the river » doing what he loved. Although he didn’t get his wish we can be rest assured that he is in a good place now and perhaps fishing once again on the river forever at peace. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his 4 sons; Wayne (Sheila) Alberta, Gary (Meeling) Alberta, David (Peggy) St. John’s, Robert Jr. in Alberta, 3 daughters; Cathy Slaney in Stephenville, Janet (Paul) Stephenville, Sharon (Dave) Ontario, brother Charles in Edmonton, sister Theresa “Tess” Power in Point Au Mal, 15 Grandchildren, 3 Great grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Sylvester & Alice Slaney, Wife Margaret, brothers Maurice, Lawrence and sisters Creusa Stacey, Margaret Childers & Violet Turpin. Visitation will take place at Russell’s Funeral Home in Stephenville, NL on Monday February 4, 2019 from 7-9 P.M. Funeral Service will take place 10 A.M. at St. Stephen’s Parish on Tuesday February 5, 2019. Family would like to thank Silverwood Manor for their loving support & care. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital Foundation.
