Life Story for
Raymond Joseph Pereda
PEREDA, Raymond Joseph – July 17 1920- February 24 2019. Following a full and active life of nearly 99 years, Ray died too soon at the Greater Niagara Falls General Hospital following a brief illness. Prior to his first admission to a hospital Ray was snow blowing his driveway, driving to purchase his groceries and handling all his household chores. He was very proud to have passed his driver test for the tenth time last fall. Ray’s life was organized and orderly, his grass was cut, his bushes trimmed and flower gardens ready for the coming spring. He made lists and had his notes in readiness for whenever he needed them. Ray was born in Montreal the second youngest of seven sibling he spoke fondly of growing up in a warm and close family. He took great pride in his Spanish and Irish heritage and his father’s skills as a cigar maker. Ray served with great pride in the Royal Rifles Regiment of the Canadian Army in World War II from 1940 to 1946 and treasured the medals he was awarded and he remained until his death a proud and loyal member of the Niagara Falls Canadian Legion. He relocated to Niagara following the war and his marriage to Bea. He was employed briefly with Stamford Township, Norton Company, Lionite Abrasives before being able to find work in his profession as an optical technician with Francis Optical in Niagara Falls NY where he was able to use his training, skills and love of precision work for over 30 years. Ray was predeceased by his first wife Beatrice (Bea) Wing Pereda (1973) and his second wife Gladys Nagy Pereda (2017), Brother Manny, 5 Sisters, Daughters in law Joyce Wing 2000 and Marjorie Wing (1990), grandson David Wing (1984). He is survived by his sister Marjorie Therien (Montreal), step children- Arthur (Jacquie) Wing (St. Catharines), Robert (Huguette) Wing (Toronto), Alan Nagy (Toronto), Raymond Nagy (Niagara Falls), Ruth Loggie (Crystal Beach. Fondly remembered and respected by his 15 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. The family is especially appreciative to the Third floor staff of the Greater Niagara General Hospital site for their caring and compassionate support both to Ray and his family during this difficult time. Family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main St. visiting on Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service in Celebration of Ray’s Life will be held on Wednesday at 11 am at the funeral home. The Rite of Committal will follow at Lundy’s Lane Cemetery. In memory of Ray, memorial donations may be made to the Rankin Cancer Run or the Niagara Health Foundation (GNGH Site) and would be appreciated by his family.
