July 29, 1921 – February 11, 2019

MILDRED IRENE (DAVIES) GAGNON
Born: July 29, 1921 Dryden Ontario
It is with Great Sadness that our Beloved Millie passed away on Feb 11, 2019, at the age of 97.
Millie was born to Charles and Flora Davies on July 29, 1921 at her great grandmother’s (Mary Stephenson) family home in Dryden, Ontario.
Millie was 5 when her family moved to Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, from McIntosh, Ontario to be able to attend school. She would tell of her time as a young girl playing for the hockey team along with many adventures that she had with her brothers Harry, James and Ralph. When Millie was married to Harvey Currie they resided in Dauphin where they had 4 children: Maurice, Betty, Sharon and Wayne. Millie lived in Camp Robinson with husband, Herbert Wishart where she had William. After Herbert’s death Millie moved to Dryden, Ontario, where she had many family and friends. Millie married George Bartlett, they had 2 children, Wendy and Randy. Millie married Arthur Gagnon, they spent many happy years together. They shared a passion for fishing, camping, playing cards and picking blueberries. Millie loved enjoying the outdoors. They spent many a weekend and summer months traveling to all the lakes. After Art’s passing Millie became a pivotal part of starting up the Ignace Silver Top Senior Centre; volunteering her time to the Seniors Club. Millie had just received a 100 year pin from the Lions Club which she proudly showed to everyone. She was also a member of the Dryden Legion. Millie experienced heart breaking moments when her daughter Wendy passed at the young age of 7, daughter Sharon Brooks in 2018, son Wayne Currie in 2017 and grandson Bryan Weberg in 2015.
Millie was predeceased by her parents and her brothers. In Millie’s long life she had many wonderful friends and numerous family members in the Dryden area. Millie became a surrogate mom and a grandma to many kind and loving friends who adored her.
We are so blessed to have shared 97 years of Millie’s loving, generous heart! We will all deeply miss her and are truly blessed to have known her.
Millie will be greatly missed by her children Maurice Currie (Caroline), Betty Faulkner, Bill Wishart (Vicki) and Randy Bartlett, 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
A very special Thank-you to the Staff at Princess Court, Edith and Randy for taking great care of Millie in her final days.
As per Mildred’s wishes there will be no Funeral Service.
If friends so desire donations may be made to Dryden Palliative Care or a charity of choice through the Stevens Funeral Homes P.O. Box 412, Dryden ON P8N 2Z1.
