Lois Mildred Boon, age 88, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at Spruce Lodge, on February 13, 2019. Born in Stratford, daughter of the late Charles and Mildred (Stewart) Pope.
Beloved wife for 63 years of Arthur. Loving mother of Art (Laura) and Rick (Kim). Grandmother of MacKenzie Chadillon (J.M.), Ryan, Jamie, Mikaila and Madison. Also survived by sisters-in-law Madeline and Dorothy Boon and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Stewart, Kenneth and Arthur Pope and by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Lillian Massey (John), Rose, Robert and Fred Boon.
Lois worked at Kroehler Manufacturing for many years where she played for Provincial fastball, basketball and volleyball champions. She was a life member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Branch #8 Stratford, where she was recording secretary for 21 years. Lois loved to watch her children and grandchildren play sports and was an avid sewer. Lois could always be found scorekeeping at the slow pitch games that Art and their sons played. In their retirement, Art and Lois travelled the world and she documented each trip with volumes of pictures. Lois had many fond memories of her life which in the end were taken away by dementia.
The family would like to thank the staff at Spruce Lodge and Dr. Peter Brooks for their loving care of Lois of the past number of years.
Visitation for family and friends at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Saturday, February 16, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The Legion Ladies Auxiliary will hold a service at the funeral home. Saturday at 1:45 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, February 17, at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow at the Stratford Legion. A family graveside service will take place at Avondale Cemetery on Tuesday. Rev. Dr. Lorne Mitchell will officiate.
