Obituary of Joseph Baumgartner
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather & uncle, Joseph Baumgartner, on February 25, 2019. He left us peacefully at the age of 98 years, with his loving family by his side. Joseph was born on January 2, 1921 on the family farm homestead at Odessa, SK. Joseph was predeceased by his father, Frank; mother, Barbara; son, Kenneth; sisters, Katie, Johannah, Antonia, Christina, Annie, Agatha, Josephine, Magdalene; brothers, Lawrence and Tony. Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Caroline, of 72 years; his children, Joanne (George) Clark, Jerome Baumgartner, Maria (Dennis) Emond, Dolores (Lyle) McDonald, Shirley Baumgartner (Morley); 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Joseph was drafted into the Canadian Armed Forces in 1943 working as a heavy artillery operator, then receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1946. Joseph married the one and only love of his life, Caroline that same year and together they farmed the homestead farmland, raising the family there until they moved to Regina in 1968. He obtained his Boiler Ticket and worked in building maintenance throughout Regina until his retirement at age 65. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Chaplain Jennifer Holtslander and all of the wonderful staff on unit 3-5 at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, Veterans Ward. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Little Flower R.C. Parish, 420 College Avenue, Regina, SK. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Joseph’s memory may do so to the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Branch 001, 1820 Cornwall Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2K2.
