In Loving Memory
Josephine Barbara Kathryn (Mierau) Braun passed away peacefully at Watrous Manitou Lodge on Saturday, December 15, 2018
Josie was born January 1, 1944 at St. Paul’s Hospital , Saskatoon, SK to Diedrich and Justina (Stahl) Mierau. She grew up in Langham, SK and completed her schooling there. After graduation she took her Registered Nurse’s training at Saskatoon City Hospital and worked in St. Paul’s Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit and the Dialysis Unit.
Upon confession of her faith she was baptised on April 30, 1972 in the Zoar Mennonite Church in Langham, SK. Josie married Cornelius Braun of Drake, SK on October 28, 1972. They lived on a farm in the Drake area and later moved into the village of Drake. She worked as a Registered Nurse in the Lanigan Hospital from 1973 to the early nineties . She was a member of the North Star Mennonite Church in Drake and took an active role with music as a piano player and also as librarian with the church library.
Josie moved into a condo in Drake in 1998. She loved her music especially the Gaither ‘s , of which she had many CD’s and DVD’s to listen and watch. You would also find a puzzle on the table or in later years on her computer or Ipad. Reading and collecting poetry or sayings was a fun pastime for her. She cross stitched many beautiful pictures. Countless doilies, tablecloths and snowflakes were crocheted and many afghans and scarves were knitted. Her cat Duchess was her companion for many years. Josie enjoyed Senior hockey games at the local rink and in the last three years mobility prevented her from going to the rink which she missed a lot. Curling, Blue Jays baseball and Rider football were highlights for TV watching. She really liked coffee times with friends at the restaurant and then at the Silver Sages. Times with her family were important and special to her. Josie had many friends in and around Drake and also kept in contact with some of her nursing friends from training in Saskatoon.
Sadly 2018 saw her not in good health most of the year. Due to mobility she moved to the Manitou Lodge in Watrous in June. She was happy to be there and enjoyed the residents and the nursing staff who cared for her. November her health deteriorated further and God saw to take her weary body and mind to her heavenly home.
The family is very thankful for all the assistance provided to Josie by her sister-of-the-heart, Joyce. Thank you to the staff of the Watrous Manitou Lodge who cared for Josie in such a loving manner day after day.
