Bruce LUCAS
August 29, 1944 – February 4, 2019
It is with great sadness that the family of James Bruce Lucas announces his passing at the age of 74 on Monday February 4, 2019 at the Victoria Hospital with his family by his side. Bruce was born in Biggar, SK on August 29, 1944 to Helen and Joseph Lucas. Bruce joined the family with his brothers Albert, Lloyd, Ben and sister Lillian. At a young age he showed ample interest and ability to tinker, build, fix things and drive anything that he could get his hands on. He started into the work force as a trucker, hauling pulp. Later he followed his desires to trade school and became a welder which had him working in many places on unique projects. His career path would change to professional coach driver for Prince Albert Northern Bus Lines and it continued to take him to places across Canada and the United States meeting many interesting people along the way. Bruce loved to work and continued to do just that, driving truck and hauling equipment around the country until the age of 71. Bruce was considered a Jack of all trades, always looking for another project or something to keep his mind and hands busy. On March 10, 1967 he married Bonnie Trueman and to this union two children were born first his son Trevor, his building and mechanical partner. They took on many projects including rebuilding cars, fixing machinery and constructing buildings. Followed by Peggy 2 years later. Bruce was always actively involved in everything his children did with him and Bonnie together in every endeavor they faced. They did many holidays together involved in organizations like the Lions Club, lake days and were part of any achievement the kids had. Soon the family grew when Peggy brought a second son Rick Kalinowski into their home. Trevor soon after married Barbara, adding another daughter to the family. There were never too many family members in Bruce’s life, he had a big heart and a lot of love to give. Bruce found a hobby building furniture to beautify the yard for his love Bonnie. Later learning to relax and enjoy sitting on it with her watching many sunsets together taking in the beauty of what they had built together on their acreage. The pace of Bruce’s life took a dramatic slowdown when he was diagnosed with ALS. The debilitating condition slowed him physically but never took his energetic spirit. Even though he required assisted care, Bonnie took on that role keeping him at home and enjoying their time together on the acreage so that he could continue being the idea man, problem solver and mentor to his son Trevor, and grandson Jeremy while they worked on the sawmill. Even though Bruce had lost his mobility, he never lost his desire to be an active contributor to the wood business and could be found many days in the saw shack helping guide the daily operations. Bruce was very proud and loved his kids and grandkids, was involved in their lives and never missed a chance to be together as a family. Bruce’s memory will be forever cherished by his wife Bonnie (nee Trueman) Lucas, son Trevor (Barbara) Lucas, daughter Peggy (Rick) Kalinowski, grandchildren: Colton Kalinowski, Taylor Kalinowski and Jeremy Lucas, brothers: Albert (Dorothy) Lucas, Lloyd (Linda) Lucas and Ben (Maureen) Lucas, and brother-in-law: Alex Rebryna, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Bruce joins his mother Helen (Burtney) Lucas, father Joseph Lucas and his sister Lillian Rebryna. A Celebration of Bruce’s Life will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Grays Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28 Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Dennis Serfas officiating. Donations can be made to the ALS society. The family would like to thank all those at the Victoria Hospital that helped care and comfort Bruce in his last days.
