Obituary of Garry MacLean
Garfield James “Garry” MacLean died on January 29th, 2019 at Kelso Pines Retirement Home, Owen Sound, Ontario. A family only memorial service will be held in spring 2019. Brian E. Wood Funeral Home will provide funeral arrangements. Garry was born on July 21st, 1926, in Durham, Ontario. He served as a young member of the military during World War II. For many years Garry owned a small business; he raised his family in Owen Sound, and he and Marie celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in November 2018. Life’s simple pleasures brought enjoyment to Garry’s life; he may be best remembered drinking a strong cup of coffee and eating a piece of pie while sitting on his back porch, contemplating life. Garry is survived by his wife, Marie Katherine MacLean (nee Litt). He will be missed by his children: son Larry MacLean (wife, Jaye Wigston) of Owen Sound; daughter Linda Hammond (husband, Larry Hammond) of Riverview, New Brunswick; daughter Katherine MacLean (husband, Jack Nahrgang) of Kitchener, Ontario, and is preceded in death by son Cameron MacLean of Owen Sound. Garry often spoke of his five grandchildren, Miranda (daughter of Larry), Erin and Keith (daughter and son of Linda), Charla and Christine (daughters of Cameron). Garry’s great-grandson, Shawn (mother, Erin), remembers summer days of cutting grass with his great-grandfather. Garry would have wanted to acknowledge his close friendship with Jim Graham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6 Poppy Fund. The MacLean family wishes to thank the staff at Kelso Pines; homecare workers, Leanne and Janet; and nurse practitioner, Heather. Their professionalism and dedication will long be remembered.
