Daisy Mary Layte
December 16, 1923 – February 26, 2019
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Daisy Layte. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the Mount Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Daisy will be remembered lovingly by family and friends for her bright smile and sparkling eyes. Born in Fogo, Newfoundland, on December 16, 1923, to Jonas and Blanche (Stuckey) Purchase. She was predeceased by her mother and father; husband, Harold Layte; son-in-law, Bill Shugarue; and grandson, Rodney Layte. Daisy is survived by her beloved children, Roy (Barbara) Layte; Jerry (Anita) Layte; Jean Layte; Elaine Shugarue; and Harold (Shari) Layte. Daisy cherished her grandchildren, Janice, Bonnie, Susan, Jason, Shane, and Victoria; as well as her great-grandchildren, Britany, Maddison, Jacob, Callyn, and Kinley. Daisy had a passion for fishing and found great joy in teaching her grandchildren how to properly catch a trout. She never allowed anyone to leave her home hungry or without playing a game of cards. A special thank you is extended to the caring and dedicated staff at the Mount Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home who helped make Daisy’s life so enjoyable over the past six years. She will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Visitation will take place at the Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 2:00PM – 4:00PM and 7:00PM – 8:00PM.
The celebration of Daisy’s life will be held in Lewisporte at the St. Paul’s Anglican Church on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 2:30PM.
Donations may be made to the St. Paul’s Anglican Church Cemetery Fund and/or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
