BABINEAU, Alvin Andrew Jr.
November 28, 1946 – February 12, 2019
With broken hearts, we share the passing of our much-loved and adored husband, father, and grandfather Andrew Jr. on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at the age of 72. Married to Barbara (nee Wilczynski) for forty-nine and a half years they started out as a young married couple in 1969, living first in Burlington, then Hamilton, and finally moving to Empire Corners in 1977 to raise their three children Cindy Accardi (Vince), Bryan Babineau (Lori), and Denise “Rosie” Babineau (Cameron Scholl). To his four grandchildren Curtis, Danielle, Alyssa and Evan he was Poppa. To many he was Junior and to others he was Andy. Our hero came from a large French-Canadian, Nova Scotian family started by his late mother Natalie Babineau (nee Coté) and his late father Andrew Babineau, for whom he is named. Together they brought the Babineau clan into the world, including Gilbert Babineau (Joan), Rose Page (Felix), Guy Babineau (Kay), Reno Babineau (Martha), Tin Vaillancourt (Maurice), Noella Patershuk (Paul), Martina Chettle-Thomas (Bob), Ivan Babineau (Lynn), and his surviving younger brother Louis Babineau (Debbie). The passing of his parents and all his other brothers and sisters left a hole in his heart and life that couldn’t be filled. How can it be when they’ve been your best friends your whole life? Junior is survived by his sisters-in law Christine Averink (Martin Nye), Pauline Puzynska (Richard Cameron), and Janice Williams (Phil), and a multitude of nephews, nieces, and friends – so many of whom name him as their favourite. We understand. He is our favourite, too. Junior’s family wants the world to know that he was the hardest working man around. A professional roofer, he founded and led Yorktown Roofing for forty years, shingling thousands of roofs with a crew he mentored and treated like family. His work was second to none. We are so very proud of him. He recently hung up his hatchet and loved spending time with his buddy Reggie. Thank you for your friendship, Reggie. An incredibly strong, principled, generous, loyal, humble, and unassuming man, Junior loved and was loved fiercely by everyone. Especially handsome in a suit and suspenders, a wedding or other special occasion made his green eyes twinkle and his heart merry. What also made him happy was coffee (instant was a-okay if you can imagine), a honey dip donut from Tim’s, a good TV show without commercials, reading, music (his love of Johnny Cash never faded), muskie fishing, and a Morgan’s spiced rum and Coke on the rocks chased by a Coors Light. Our lives are immeasurably better for this wonderful gem who is gone too soon. Sunday dinners, holidays and the annual cottage pilgrimage will never be the same. Our family had so many plans and how we will carry on is unfathomable. We are grateful to the Haldimand County Paramedic Service and the Cayuga OPP who fought tirelessly to keep him with us. Much appreciation to the staff at the Juravinski emergency department for your efforts and reverence, and Father Jeffrey Oehring from St. Margaret Mary for your blessing. Our profound gratitude as well to Dr. Deb Hastings who left no stone unturned in his ongoing care. You kept him with us longer. Visitation will take place in the MILLER FUNERAL CHAPEL (28 Cathiness Street East in Caledonia) on Friday, February 15, 2019 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm with a rosary vigil at 8:30 pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Saturday, February 16, 2019 in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (107 Orkney Street East in Caledonia). Entombment (“Don’t you dare put me in the ground!”) will take place at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery (600 Spring Gardens Road in Burlington) will follow the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Our goodbyes will conclude after the entombment, at the Lions Club Hall (100 Haddington Street in Caledonia). He’d want everyone together celebrating with a laugh, a lunch and a drink. So that’s what we shall do.
