William “Bill” Miller
William “Bill” Miller
Bill passed peacefully on January 27, 2019. He is predeceased by his parents Walter and Edna, his wife Olga and his brother Archie. He is survived by his brother Robert, sister-in-law Shelagh, sister-in-law Mary (Archie), nieces Linda (Dave) and Lee (Harvey), nephews John (Liz), AJ, Rick (Lori), Bill (Jamie) and families.
Bill was born and raised in Grosse Isle, Manitoba on the family farm by loving parents Walter and Edna. From an early age Bill knew he wanted to farm. His love for cattle, sheep and hogs would be a topic he could always be engaged in. His brother Robert and he farmed successfully, growing their feedlot and grain operation. He implemented innovative farming practices during his career, both in animal husbandry and crop management. He could always share the desired confirmation of any animal his nieces or nephews would ask him about. He especially loved cats and would always have one when he lived on the farm.
Bill met the love of his life Olga Wozniak in the 60’s. The strength of their love was evident to all that knew them. They eventually married in the 80’s and he somewhat reluctantly moved to the big city still coming out during the week to farm with his brother.
Although Bill and Bob were amazingly close as brothers and business partners Bill shared a special place in his heart for his younger brother Archie (Bud). He was tremendously proud of Bud becoming a respected veterinarian. He and Bud remained close confidants up until Buds passing in 2018.
Bill always had time for his nieces and nephews as well as his great-nieces and great-nephews. Bill encouraged his niece’s love of horses and always provided tips as well as life savers to any horse we had. He championed Lee’s love for art and Linda’s match making skills. His nephews loved his very dry sense of humour. He was pretty quick with a droll quip here and there. They really appreciated that about him.
Bill was also a philanthropist supporting Grace Hospital and Heart and Stroke foundations as well as other charities.
Bill loved his last few years at West Park Manor. He spoke highly of the staff there and in the end they commented on what a gentleman he had been. In the end several beautiful looking girls came to say their goodbyes saying he’d been one of their favourites. This didn’t surprise as we all knew Bill couldn’t resist a pretty girl. One of them said when she was last attending to him he said, that she’d better be careful she didn’t trip over Olga’s feet as she was sitting beside the bed.
Our hope is Bill is with his beloved Olga, Archie, Edna and Walter now in a better place.
Our thanks to the dedicated staff at West Park Manor.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de William “Bill Miller 2019..
