Walter Stuart Scorgie January 26th 2019

It is with sadness that the family of Bud Scorgie announces his passing on January 26, 2019 in Trail, BC after a brief illness at 86 years of age.
Bud was born in Nelson, BC. He was raised in Rossland and spent his adult life living in Trail.
At the young age of 3 Bud was introduced to skiing and he particularly liked ski jumping. By the age of 9 he was jumping at the original Rossland Ski Club jump at the end of the Rossland Reservoir. He won his first competition at age 14. In 1947 at the age of 15 he jumped at the Western Canadian Championships at the famous Nels Nelson hill in Revelstoke winning a gold medal in the Junior category. In 1949 he won the junior championships in Nelson and Princeton and competed in the Olympic trials in Revelstoke. Bud jumped over 300 feet in 1954 at the International Tournament of Champions in Revelstoke. At the Centennial Invitational competition during the PNE in Vancouver he jumped on a metal framed ski hill covered in crushed ice. In 1960, Bud was invited to the Canadian Olympic trials in Port Arthur, Ontario but was unable to attend as no funding was in place at the time.
In 1947 Bud worked on the original construction of the first chair lift at Red Mountain, slashing brush and skidding logs by horse.
Bud had a long career with Celgar Pulp, and enjoyed a 26-year retirement.
Bud had the contract for many years delivering soft drinks to Cominco. It was during this job that he developed a lifetime love of Pepsi.
Bud’s greatest passion for the past 55 years was his summer home at Christina Lake. Water skiing, swimming, sharing his garden with the deer, spring floods, summer windstorms, family gatherings, storytelling and always a cooler full of Pepsi.
Bud is survived by and will be deeply missed by his partner Sue, step-daughters Crystal and Wenda, his sister Marie and brother Norman (Ellen). He is also survived by and will be missed by his grandchildren, Adam and Keely Jo, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Bud was predeceased by his first wife, Frances, his son Bud Jr., brother Gerald, sister-in-law Carol Scorgie and brother-in-law Bob Lloyd.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Scully, Jim Maniago, and the exceptional staff of the 3rd floor at KBRH for their care and kindness during Bud’s last weeks.
Cremation has taken place. A private celebration of life will take place at a later date. Gwen Ziprick of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, donations in Bud’s memory may be made to the KBRH Health Foundation at 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail, BC, V1R 4M1 or online at www.kbrhhealthfoundation.ca
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.
