Wally was born on April 25th, 1946 in Braunschweig, Germany. He arrived in Canada with his family in 1948, and grew up in the North End of Winnipeg. After attending St John’s High School, Wally enrolled in Barber School in 1967, where he became a barber and opened his own salon House of Class. This is where Wally hired Maylene who followed Wally for 34 years. Maylene became a third daughter to Wally and she held a special place in his heart. Wally’s last place of employment was at Pall’s Hairstyling where he enjoyed working with Bernie, Marcus & of course Maylene. Wally developed a very strong cliental who followed him for 50 years of his career, and many of his clients became dear friends to him. Wally thoroughly loved his job and never missed a day of work.
Wally married Judy on September 7th, 1968. They were married for 50 years and had 2 wonderful daughters. They enjoyed spending their summers at West Hawk Lake and Pye’s Landing. Wally and Judy enjoyed travelling with Larry & Gerrie on many bus trips throughout Canada and the United States. Wally had a strong passion for motorcycles and purchased his first Harley Davidson which he was very proud of. He spent many evenings and weekends cruising the city with his buddies Bruce & Gord.
Wally spent many years volunteering his time as a Shriner at the Shrine Circus. He was always very proud of his sales and was one of the top salesmen of balloons throughout his years of service.
Wally was diagnosed with cancer in July of 2012. He courageously took 83 chemo treatments where he spent many hours at Grace Hospital Cancer Care. He developed strong bonds with the all the staff there especially with his favourite nurse Rhonda. In October 2018, Wally was admitted into St. Boniface hospital, where he received exceptional care from the staff. Wally had a short stay at Riverview where the staff were extremely companionate and a special thank you to Jennifer & Alina for their care. The family wishes to thank Dr. Duane Hartley, Dr. Trevor Lee & Dr. Pat Harris for their exceptional care over the years.
No service will be held as per Wally’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba – Grace Hospital. The family would like to thank everyone who helped Wally through his illness. A special thank you to Charlie Swan for hand making the beautiful urn.
