Obituary for
Treharne Llewellyn « Treh » Shepstone
1951 – 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Treharne ‘Treh’ Llewellyn Shepstone, after a long battle with cancer, in Red Deer, Alberta on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at the age of 67 years. Treh was born on October 9, 1951 at Port Elizabeth, South Africa to Laurence and Pauline Shepstone; he had many fond memories of his young childhood there. At the age of eleven, Treh, his sister, Laura and their parents moved to Cape Town, South Africa. Treh had a deep love for that most beautiful of cities, until the day he died. As a young man, Treh had many adventures with his good friends, Piet, Hein and Darryl. Many stories of hiking, scuba diving and a lot of mischief came of those friendships, providing many hours of reminiscing and laughter. Treh was a loyal and devoted friend and cherished those memories dearly. Other funny stories developed when Treh served in the South African Navy. He said he turned from being a boy to becoming a man during that time. However, his mischievousness never changed, resulting in some hilarious memories. Treh had many adventures over the years he lived in South Africa, having raised three beautiful children; working hard to provide the best for his family; and enjoying all the benefits of living in that beautiful country. In 2001, Treh moved to Canada, something he called his best adventure ever. In March of that year, Treh and Laurie were married and began their life together. Treh loved music of all kinds, and playing one of his guitars made him very happy. Often, he would put on a selection of CDs, turn up the volume to a nearly deafening level, then play and sing until his fingers were sore. The whole house would rock as he partied to the Rock’n’Roll blasting full tilt. Animals were one of Trehs greatest loves. He was completely devoted to every pet he ever had, and each one was treated with ultimate kindness. Treh was an ‘Animal Whisperer’, and all his pets adored him. He rescued several dogs and cats; at one time he was the proud ‘Dad’ of seventeen cats and five dogs! Treh loved nature and the outdoors, and enjoyed walks in the woods, camping and basking in the beauty of the natural world. Sports were a big part of Trehs life. He especially loved soccer, motorcycle racing and wrestling. Often he could be heard cheering on his favourite soccer team or wrestler. Another great love of Trehs was the garden. He made it a thing of beauty, always keeping the lawn perfectly mowed and trimmed, and the flower beds impeccable. He loved to relax in the garden, watching the hummingbirds and listening to the songbirds, as they chirped and sang. He said they created a symphony that was matchless. Travel and roadtrips were great loves of Treh. He was awed by the sights overseas, and the highlight of summer was a leisurely drive through The Rockies. Treh loved the mountains and marveled at their majesty. He always loved the beauty of this Earth. Treh had a wonderful sense of humour, and many laughs were to be had whenever he was around. Above everything, family was Trehs most important thing. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, and he took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He loved seeing photos sent by his children of the grandchildren as they grew. Treh cherished his family above everything else. Treh will be greatly missed and all of us will cherish his memory. Treh will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Laurie, his children, Kali (Adrian) Hepker, Sven (Jeanine) Shepstone, Nicole Shepstone, Chris (Iris) Farness, Beth (Erik) Kyler and his eight grandchildren. He will also be sadly missed by his sister, Laura (Norman) Nel and many dear family and friends. Treh was predeceased by his parents, Laurence and Pauline Shepstone. A Celebration of Trehs Life will be held in Camrose, Alberta, at the Royal Canadian Legion on January 19, 2018 at 2:00 PM. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in Treh’s honour may be made directly to the Red Deer Regional Hospital Foundation at
