Lovingly Remembered
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sidney James Patrick, « Jim » on Friday, January 25th, with his loved ones by his side. Jim passed away at home, after a hard fought battle with Cancer at the age of 72.
Jim will be lovingly missed by his partner, Ursula Smythe, his children Tara Ratz(Mark), Corey Patrick (Kelly) and his grandchildren; Mic, Tykira, Taylor, Jayden, Kaylee,
step grandchild Christine Mitchell, brother Ron Patrick(Donna Mae), sister Darlene Paquette (Randy) will be missed by close friend John”
Jim was predeceased by his parents Peter and Irene(Pearce) Patrick, his brothers Fred and Jerry Patrick, his wife Carol(Mitchelle) Patrick and step son Kelly Mitchell.
Jim was born in Winnipeg on June 22nd 1946, and was the 4th of 5 children. Growing up, Jim was adventurous and had a free spirit. In Jim’s teenage years, he was frequently spotted at the drive inn or the Thunderbird restaurant sporting sideburns and his James Dean hairdo. After high school, Jim attended Culinary Arts School where he developed a passion for cooking and worked at several restaurants as a chef exploring his new trade. Years later, Jim turned his attention to painting and was self employed until he acquired a position at Davian Construction, which he later retired from. Jim enjoyed bowling and shuffleboard, and was in multiple leagues throughout his life. Jim treasured the outdoors during the summer when he spent time fishing with his children in the Whiteshell . He was an avid Winnipeg Jets fan and was ecstatic when the Jets team came back to Winnipeg, he rarely missed a game! Jim also liked to play the slots on occasion, and usually left with more money than he came with. Throughout his life he loved writing poetry and was featured in the Winnipeg Sun in his late 30’s as a poet for hire. Leading up to his retirement, Jim developed a love of gardening, and prided himself on his bounty.
Jim was a caring man. He dedicated his time to care for his granddaughter (Christine Mitchell), which provided many great memories. Jim also cared for his widow, Carol Patrick (Mitchell) during her long courageous battle with kidney disease.
Jim proved that you’re never too old to find love. In his early 70’s, he met Ursula Smythe, a worldly, and compassionate woman who was as equally witty. They hit it off instantly, and soon Ursula was hooked on the Jets and joining Jim in cold arenas as they watched his granddaughters ringette games, while ‘somewhat’ agreeably, Jim began watching BBC news and eating healthy foods. Jim was happy and in love with a wonderful woman.
“ Thank you to the palliative care program for their care, compassion and support during this difficult time.”
Respecting Jim’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service. Cremation has taken place and his ashes spread in all the places he loved.
We love you dad! XXOO
