Herman Yat Mun Lee
July 27th, 1966 – January 5th, 2019
After a courageous 5-year fight with heart failure, Herman Lee passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 5th, 2019, at the age of 52. He was born on July 27th, 1966. A lifelong Vancouver native, he attended John Oliver Secondary, the University of British Columbia, and BCIT, graduating with a degree in Operations Management. Herman was a kid at heart with a vivacious spirit and love of adventure. He was a collector of technological gadgets and had a passion for fishing, golf, volleyball, videogames, football (a 49ers fan thanks to his roots in San Francisco) and baseball (a Giants fan). With his wife Michelle, whom he was married to for 13 years, he shared his love of food, music, travel, British comedies and hockey (a Canucks fan). Together, they built a loving and welcoming home on Burke Mountain in Coquitlam. Here, his love of the outdoors was met. Herman enjoyed looking at the beautiful view the mountain offered, walking the forest trails with his dog Cooper, and riding his M90 motorcycle on warm summer days. He loved to host backyard barbeques where everyone was welcomed to enjoy an afternoon of laughter and great food with him. Most precious to him were his children, Ethan and Ella. As a proud and loving father, he often shared pictures and told stories of his children to everyone he met. He was amazed by Ethan’s quiet intelligence and Ella’s precocious personality and loved watching them grow.
Herman is survived by his beloved wife Michelle and children Ethan and Ella, parents Peter and Helen Lee, brother Andy (Janice), sister Corrine (Douglas), and nieces and nephews.
Herman was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and friend. His passing has left a void that will never be filled. Be at peace and rest assured that your memory will live on forever in our hearts. Herman, we love you and will miss you each and every day.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the care teams at St. Paul’s Hospital’s multiple Cardiac Units and Palliative Care Unit for their wonderful care over the years. We would also like to acknowledge Athena at Kearney Funeral Services for taking care of all the details and Father Slawomir Oblak, OMI at St Casimir’s Church who kindly accommodated us to celebrate and remember Herman’s life.
Prayers will be offered at 10:30 am on Thursday, January 24th, 2019 at St. Casimir’s Church (1187 East 27th Avenue, Vancouver) immediately followed by Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at 11:00 am.
