Obituary
Henry Radziszewski passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 13th 2019 in North Vancouver, British Columbia at the age of 99. Born in Dziemidowo (near Dzisna in pre-war Poland) to Jozef and Izabela (nee Leczycka) Radziszewski, he survived WWII (Soviet prisoner of war camp, Monte Casino) and lived in Europe (Italy, Netherlands) for a few years before coming to Vancouver Canada in the late 40’s. He met his future wife in the late 50’s, married and was blessed with three kids. He worked as a carpenter leaving his hammer mark in a number of Vancouver buildings and residences. Retirement saw him serve as Polish Combatants’ Association (SPK) President (Vancouver branch) for some 21 years and support the settlement of a number of Polish immigrants in the Vancouver area. He was honoured for his service to his community by receiving the Queen’s Golden Jubilee medal as well as the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit from the government of Poland.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Regina (nee Kalinowska), children Peter Radziszewski (Anne-Marie Bourret), Isabella Radziszewski (Douglas Leitch) and Victor Radziszewski (Barbara nee Kulik), grandchildren Stephanie Bateson, Candace Bateson, Andrea Gertz (Benjamin), Nicolas Radziszewski, Maxime Radziszewski Sarah-Isabelle Radziszewski and greatgrandson Jack Purser.
Prayers will be said on Tuesday January 22nd at 10am at the St Casimir Church on 1187 East 27th avenue, Vancouver, followed at 10:30am by a eulogy and Mass of Catholic Burial with Rev. Slawomir Oblak, OMI as celebrant.
A reception in the church basement will precede a private family burial at the City of North Vancouver Cemetery in the afternoon of the 22nd.
