-Wife to “Joe” for 53 years (predeceased her in 1999)
-Mother to: Paul, Michael, Desmond, Dianne, Maureen, Stephen
-Mother in law to: Barbie, Linda, Susan, Donald, Grant
-Grandmother (Nani) to 15 beautiful children
-Great Grandmother (Great Nan) to 20 beautiful children
She left this world on the 20th anniversary of the death of her husband Joe to join him and their son Stephen in heaven.
She was born in 1927 in the small town of Langley Moor, County Durham, England. She made us laugh and amazed us all as she shared her stories of growing up in England; playing hooky from school to climb the steep steps of Durham Cathedral, surviving diphtheria, and risking being sent home by the air raid warden when she would often exchange her gas mask for her dancing slippers for a night out at the dance hall. She braved her ultimate adventure when she married the man of her dreams and traveled by herself on a trip that took her two weeks to complete, to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She informed us how, as soon as her feet hit the Canadian soil, she felt she was home. She and Joe lived a life filled with love and happiness. Together they had 6 children – 5 of whom married and added 15 grandchildren – most of whom also married and added 20 great grandchildren….and counting (3 more expected in 2019). Mom had many interests, including singing in the Corpus Christi Church choir, avid volunteer, member of the CWL, was an accomplished knitter, crocheter, and did many other types of needle work. She loved to play the organ and our family spent many happy hours gathered around her as she played and we sang. Over the years she also had several different part-time jobs and managed to keep an impeccably beautiful home. Yes, she was an energetic woman and she shared this energy with all of us. She has left a legacy of love, laughter, and living life to the fullest! We have all been very blessed having her as our mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Although our hearts are breaking, we know she is over the moon to once again be dancing in the arms of her one and only true love, Joe.
