OBITUARY
Elizabeth Ann Lewis

LEWIS, Elizabeth “Betty” Ann
March 12, 1930 – December 30, 2018
Betty passed away December 30, 2018 at the age of 88 years at the University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta. Betty was predeceased by her husband Eugene Wayland “Lew” in March of 1997. What was most important to Betty was her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She helped us, cared for us, worried about us, and loved us always. Betty is survived by her six children; Gregory (Leslie), Sherry (Russ), Shane (Cindy), Morgan (Heather), Tracey (Lee) and Kelly. Six grandchildren; Jason, Jennifer, Nicole, Krystal, Kristina and Paige. Five great grandchildren; Jordan, Alice, Hannah, Elliott and Maggie. Betty is also survived by her brother; Richard and sister; Francis. Betty was born in Cobourg, Ontario on March 12, 1930 where she met and married Wayland. In and around raising six children Betty worked for Dominion Stores and eventually Eaton’s of Canada where she managed the cafeteria supervising over 60 full and part-time employees for several years. After the cafeteria Betty transferred to the shoe department where she enjoyed a less hectic finish to her working career. Betty enjoyed listening to music, especially country and western, playing cards, and watching Judge Judy every day. Betty agreed with every decision Judge Judy made. Betty also loved to watch good old- fashioned westerns on TV; Gunsmoke and Have Gun Will Travel were favourites and she especially liked all the John Wayne movies. Betty spent three years in Germany as part of Wayland’s peacekeeping role with the Canadian Armed Forces. While there she worked part time, raised four children, attended school concerts, hockey games, volunteered with base activities and traveled about Europe with Wayland. Upon Wayland’s transfer back to Canada two more children were born in Edmonton and her very busy life continued. Betty truly loved all of her children but grandchildren were in her words “the best”. Betty spent her last four years in Capital Care Strathcona, Sherwood Park. The family is very grateful to the staff of Capital Care Strathcona for the excellent care and compassion provided to Betty over the last four years. A private family gathering will be held to honour Betty’s life.
