Mr. Edward Thompson
Surrounded by love and his family, it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ed at the Chatham Kent Hospice after a long battle with cancer. He will be greatly missed by his best friend and wife Barb (Quigly) of fifty-four years. Loving father to his four children: Margaret Ostapec (Michael), Kathleen Oliver (Brian), Michael Thompson (Meghan) and John Thompson (Mary). Proud grandfather to his three grandchildren, Jesse and Miranda Ostapec and Abbigael Thompson. Ed was born in St. Stephen, N.B. in 1941 to Burt and Beatrice and came to Ontario at age of eleven. He is survived by his two sisters, Joan Thompson and Judy Quigly (Paul). Ed is predeceased by brother Ken Thompson and sister Doreen Buzwah, and brother-in-law Peter Quigly. Also mourning his loss Sandra (Quigly) and Steve Erny and Jim and Nancy Quigly and many nieces and nephews. Ed served his community for thirty years as a Police Officer with Chatham Police Service retiring in 1994. He then enjoyed his many hobbies of fishing, hunting, wood working and travelling, as well as playing cards and enjoying his friends at the Imperial Club. A special thanks to Dr. K. Bailey and Dr. R. Mayo and the dedicated staff at the Chatham Kent Hospice for the wonderful care that Ed received. Family and friends are invited to the Alexander and Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington Street West, Chatham, Ontario, on Thursday, January 31st 2019 with visiting between the hours of 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be conducted from the chapel of the Funeral Home with Reverend Jamie Tiffin officiating on Friday, February 1, @ 11:00 am. As per Ed’s request in lieu of flowers, if desired, a donation to Chatham Kent Hospice, Chatham Kent Health Alliance Dialysis Unit, Princess Margaret Hospital,Toronto, or charity of choice.
Visitation: Thursday January 31st from 2 to 5 & 7 to 9 pm.
Funeral Service: Friday February 1st at 11:00 am.
