Dr. Scott Giffin
1954-2019
With sadness and appreciation for a life lived to its
fullest, the family of Dr. Scott Giffin announces his passing on
January 02, 2019.
Survived by his loving wife Shari, children Brea (Mark
Streeter) Giffin, and Rane Giffin; sisters, Gaye MacDonald and Ann
(Joseph) Waswa, and brother Robbie (Karen) Giffin; mother-in-law,
Margaret Snow; sister-in-law Betsy (Kevin) Carson, brothers-in-law,
Richard (Wendy) Snow and Brian Snow, several nieces and nephews, and a
wonderful and supportive extended family. Predeceased by his
father-in-law, Dr. Dick Snow.
Born on April 02, 1954, in Inverness, Cape Breton, to the
late, Dr. Carl Giffin and Betty Freeman-Giffin, he grew up in Truro,
NS. His childhood passion was swimming and playing with his siblings
at their family cottage on Brule Shore.
Scott went to Mount Allison University for his undergraduate
degree, where he captained the varsity hockey team and developed
lifelong friendships with his teammates. The intense bonds that they
formed followed them through their lives, through yearly re-union
games, and countless get-togethers.
He had a sharp wit, and a boundless sense of
humour. He always took the time to include all of
those around him, and gave a great hug, from deep within
him.
After graduating from Dalhousie University Medical
School, Scott followed up a few years later with a specialization at
Harvard University of Public health. A dedicated family physician and
public health professional, DR Giffin continually upgraded and
expanded his medical knowledge throughout his career. He was a
principled man, admired by his peers; and served his profession with
distinction.
Devoted to providing for his family, his work took them on
adventures from Pictou to Boston to Memphis, to New Hampshire and back
to Saint John.
Energetic and passionate for life, Scott deeply loved his
wife Shari and their children, watching their games and celebrating
their achievements. He loved a good debate, and to play board games
and trivia with his kids. And he treasured spending weekends at their
cottage in Grand Lake.
Scott and his family are so very grateful for the support of
Scott’s close friends, and the compassionate care given by
Dr Don Black, Dr Pam Jarret, and all his medical team.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral
Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. There will be a
celebration of his life to be announced at a later
date. Personal condolences to the family and
memorial donations may be made through ReidsFH.com
Donations in memory of Scott may be made to the United Way of
Saint John, toward their poverty to possibility
initiative.
Our dad, our husband, our friend is at peace now. His spirit
lives on in our memories; and on an endless shore, where he meets the
surf with a gleam in his eyes and a full tilt sprint toward the
horizon.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Dr Scott Giffin 19542019..
