Dr Farouk Aumeerally
« Grief is the price you
pay for love »
It is with great sadness that we
announce the death of Dr. Farouk Aumeerally who passed away January
3rd, 2019 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital,
at the age of 80.
He was born in the beautiful country
of Mauritius in1938 to Aissa and Abdool Rahim Aumeerally. He left his
home and country at a young age to pursue his education. He studied
medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and completed
his postgraduate training in Psychiatry in the United Kingdom. He
eventually made his way to Canada and to Campbellton, NB. Here he made
a remarkable impact in the community and touched the lives of
thousands of patients as a beloved psychiatrist working at the
Restigouche Hospital Centre, Mental Health Clinic and Campbellton
Regional Hospital for over 40 years. His footprint made a mark outside
the walls of his clinical work with his dedicated volunteerism being a
member, and past President, of the Campbellton Rotary Club, a board
member of the Village Nursing home and a member of the Campbellton
Crisis Intervention committee.
His many qualities and remarkable
character saw him honoured as the Restigouche Medical
Society’s Physician of the Year in 2015. He was appointed
life time member of the NB Medical Society in 2010. Throughout his
career, Farouk cared deeply for his patients. His gentle personality
made him an ideal psychiatrist.
Farouk loved his family without
bounds. He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Sheila Aumeerally
(born Vick), his daughter, Nadia Aumeerally, his son in law, Babar
Haroon, and his beloved grandchildren Aisha, Yousuf and Ibrahim
Haroon. Farouk was the oldest in a family of 6 siblings. Despite his
family being scattered all over the world, he spoke to his brothers
and sisters every single day, maintaining a very close and cherished
relationship with all of them. He is missed deeply by his siblings
Abdool Rashid, Mayemoon, Khateeja, Hassen and Yasiine. He is also
survived by his many nieces and nephews.
It is difficult to describe how much Farouk will be missed.
His ever present smile was infectious and genuine. His arms
were always outstretched and ready for an embrace. He was so loving
and so loved.
Interment was held at Halifax Muslim Cemetery.
