Yvonne Ward
Passed away on September 22, 2018
WARD, YVONNE CLAIRE of Halifax, passed away on September 22, 2018 in the QEII hospital, Halifax. She was born in 1920 in Nottingham, England, daughter of the late Thomas and Clare (Smith) Walker.
The family emigrated to Canada in 1928, settling in the Annapolis Valley. Yvonne studied nursing at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal during WWII. She subsequently worked as a registered nurse in different capacities and locations in Nova Scotia.
Yvonne was married to a Baptist Minister, husband Rev. Earl Ward, and served in pastorates in Massachusetts, Paradise, NS, and First Baptist church, Dartmouth. They also lived and worked in Sydney and Yarmouth, before retiring to New Minas, Nova Scotia, where they remained active for many years, enjoying travel in Canada, the United States and abroad.
Yvonne was predeceased by her husband Earl (2004), daughter Elizabeth McKenzie, brother Ivor Walker, and sister-in-law May Walker. Yvonne is survived and will be missed by son, Gary (Janice Walsh) of Halifax; and daughter Sandra of Tucson; nieces Patricia, Lyn and Cindy; son-in-law Grey McKenzie; grandchildren Lisa, Sarah, Sieta, Geoffrey and Jennifer; great grandchildren Brandon, Brooke, Warren, Carson, Mikayla, Josh, Ella, Zachary, and Sophie.
Funeral Service will be held at Caritas Residence, 215 Seton Road, Halifax on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Interment in the Cambridge Baptist Church Cemetery, Cambridge, Kings Co, N.S. at a later date.
The family would like to thank the Board of Directors of Victoria Hall; staff of Caritas Residence and Northwood HomeCare for their care and support for the past years. The family would also like to thank the medical professionals at the QEII, and the paramedics at EHS for their compassionate care.
Arrangements are entrusted to Cruikshank’s Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Victoria Hall Society, First Baptist Church, Halifax, and the Ecology Action Centre.
