Obituary of William King
July 6th 1924 ~ April 28th 2018
KING; William “Bill” Graham; At the Stedman Community Hospice on April 28th 2018, Bill was peacefully received into his heavenly home, in his 94th year. Cherished and adored husband of Evelyn King, loving and proud father of Jeffrey King (Dianne), Queen Charlotte BC., and the late Linden King. Proud grandfather of Alyssa King (Ryan) and Jamie King, Vancouver BC., and great-grandpa of Meta, Catherine, Anne King, Vancouver, BC. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews who lovingly called him “uncle Bill”. Bill was predeceased by his mother Marie Helen King (1937), his father William Arthur King (1955), his precious daughter Linden (2009), and his special brothers Kenneth (1975), and Roy (2008). He will not be forgotten by his in-laws, Donald and Sandra Craw, Brantford, and Doris Gore, of London, ON., Predeceased by many admired sisters and brothers-in-law. Born in Ochre River, MB., received his schooling there before listing in the Royal Canadian Air Force on his 18th birthday in 1942. Following active service, he obtained his honourable discharge in 1946. He went on to the University of Manitoba, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After receiving business training with Procter and Gamble Company, he joined Mary Maxim Limited, and was General Sales Manager during the company’s growth, later to become executive Vice President, and General Manager. He went on to found William G. King Ltd., to design, publish, and distribute art needlework patterns for Canada and the United States, and other English speaking countries. With his design engineer, Berniece Wilkinson, the company published the notewortthy “Complete Needlecraft Encyclopaedia” that sold close to 500,000 copies, plus hundreds of other needlecraft books and leaflets. Bill kept busy in retirement, playing golf, which he always found challenging, “playing” his Lowrey organ, writing and publishing his memoires, trying to satisfy his insatiable appetite to learn new things, and by honing his computer skills. In his spare time, he was pleased to be chosen as Secretary Treasurer and “go to person” at his condo location. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Past President of Dolphin MB., Lions Club, former member of the Toronto Board of Trade, Past President and co-founder of the Canadian Home Sewing and Art Needlework Association, former member of the Brantford Golf and Country Club, The Brantford Club, and a founding member of the Brantford Probus Club. Bill was Past President of Brant Condos #14, and of #46, and was Past Chair of Board of Management, and Past Chair of the Board of Trustees of First Baptist Church, West. St., Thanks to Bonnie Pellow, Dawn Johnson and Michael Elwood for their love and support, and to the kind staff at the Stedman Community Hospice. Bill will be lovingly remembered by family and friends. Friends will be received at McCLEISTER FUNERAL HOME, 495 Park Road North, Brantford, on Tuesday May 1st from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. A Funeral Service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held in our chapel following visitation at 1:30 p.m. Interment Oakhill Cemetery.
