William Fagan
Fagan, William, age 79 of East Preston passed away peacefully on November 10th, 2018 at home. Born in Port Antonio, Jamaica, he was a son of the late Earlington and Gertrude Fagan.
William worked and sailed on many merchant ships traveling to many ports all over the world. One of his favorite places to visit was Haifa, Israel. Upon coming to Canada, he worked for several years at the Chateau Halifax Hotel and the Dick Turpin’s Pub where he made many lifelong friends. He then worked with the Canadian Coast Guard serving on many of their vessels before his retirement. His last voyage prior to retirement was on the Louis S. St. Laurent, Arctic Ocean Section 1994: Mission to the North Pole where he was proud to place his country’s flag.
William is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Harriet (nee: Brown); daughter, Alisha Leeann, Dartmouth; sons, William (Shannon) Sudbury, Ontario, Christopher (Patricia) Montreal, Quebec; sisters, Daisy Fagan, Lorna (Calvin) Gowie-Fagan, Melody Fagan ,Lena Fagan, Cloda Fagan; brother Barrington Fagan; father-in-law Levi Brown, Surrey, British Columbia; grandchildren, Kiara, Liam and Nova who always knew how to put a smile on their Grampy’s face; He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and special cousins who he loved and adored, and looked up to him both in Canada, the United States, and Jamaica, God children: Channell Colley, Jaleel Simmons, Matthew Bishop, Denzel Colley, Taevon Carvery and Kwame Franklin. Besides his parents William is predeceased by his brothers, Philip and Samuel; sisters, Veronica Fagan-Passley, Carolyn Fagan, and mother-in-law and best friend Charlotte Colley-Brown.
Visitation will be held at Atlantic Funeral Homes 771 Main Street Dartmouth on Friday Nov 16, 2018 from 7-9 PM with a Church service to be held on Saturday Nov 17, 2018 1PM at Victoria Road Baptist Church 36 Victoria Road, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
An extra special thank you to Bill’s team of nurses with VON and the Homecare staff with Northwood Home care who became a part of our family and provided exceptional care and support to Bill.
Donations in William’s memory may be made to the Victoria Road United Baptist Church or the Canadian Paraplegic Association.
