William « Billy » Francis Maguire
William “Billy” Francis Maguire from Cherhill, AB, passed away peacefully on August 17th, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Billy was born in Edmonton on October 8th, 1955 to Irene and Ephrim (Mickey) Maguire. He attended Archbishop MacDonald High School in Edmonton and later graduated from Farrier Science at Olds Agricultural College. Billy was a skilled Farrier and served his community for many years with his ‘Billy Maguire Horseshoeing’ business.
Billy is survived by his mother, Irene Clara Maguire of Calgary; brothers, Kevin (Miriam) of Calgary and Patrick (Laura) of Victoria; sister, Kathleen (Ariel) of Chicago; sister-in-law; Jan of Vancouver; his nieces and nephews, Keltie, Daniel, Keir, Kerry, Shanley, Kyle, Lehm, Noah and Leah. Predeceased by his father, Ephrim (Mickey) Maguire; and brother, Dr. Terry Maguire who passed away on March 11th, 2018.
Although born in Edmonton, Billy loved the country life from an early age. He spent his summers with his relatives in the Trochu, AB, area where he had the chance to learn and experience rural life. Billy then moved to the Onoway and Cherhill areas and lived an authentic life on his ranch. Billy had a great love of family and friends. He cherished his horses and his beloved dogs, Jagger and Jill. He had a deep appreciation for music and played the drums. He always enjoyed team roping and sharing stories with his roping friends.
The family is eternally grateful to the neighbors, friends and Homecare services from Mayerthorpe for trying to make Billy’s final months as comfortable as possible. Many of you went to extraordinary efforts for your friend and our brother and our appreciation is immeasurable.
Celebration of Life September 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Coyote Hall, north of Cherhill.
