Lovingly remembered by wife Betty; son Geoff and his children Brad, Jennifer (Jesse) Adam; son Michael (Brenda Tucnik); son Richard (Diane) and their children Shantal and Austin. Great grandchildren Thomas, Jasmine, Emma and Daxton. Sisters-in-law Carolyn Coutts, Marjorie Benson, Kathy Day (Ron Mantle), Judy Ambler, Janice Day (Joe Cunningham), beloved nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Bill was the son of Duart Smith and step-mother Mabel and son-in-law of Leslie and Dorothy Day. Bill grew up at Wildcat Ranch north of Lundbreck. Always proud of his pioneer heritage, he excelled in animal husbandry, loved and was loved by all animals. As a rancher, Bill was often called by neighbors to provide amateur veterinary services. He often assisted his friend, Pincher Creek vet Dr. Clarence Smith. Bill married Betty on April 16, 1960. Together they ranched at Wildcat and began to raise their 3 sons. In January 1966, they moved to Pincher Creek where Bill articled with Charlie Price, C.A. In 1977, he bought Arthur Tustian’s accounting business in Cowley where he worked for many years as Secretary/Treasurer of the Village of Cowley, Secretary/Treasurer for many utility companies, Manager of Cowley Credit Union, and insurance agent. He was a public accountant who loved numbers next after faith, family, friends, and animals. Some of the associations that Bill belonged to and aided along their way were: Appaloosa Horse Club of Canada, Pincher Creek Water Co-op, Friends of the Pincher Creek Library, First Baptist Church Pincher Creek, Mill Creek Baptist Camp, Lethbridge Astronomy Club. He enjoyed two mission trips to Tijuana where he was the hammer and saw man who taught young people to use hand tools to build houses for poverty-stricken Mexican families. In spare time, Bill enjoyed growing strawberries and raspberries, hiking, camping, curling, golfing, holidays from the Yukon to British Columbia to the Maritimes, Great Britain, and especially Arizona. In the last two years of his life he joined the Family Secrets writing group and had three stories published. He endured many physical problems in later years with grace and dignity and was active until the very last days of his life. Bill accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in September 1959 and was baptized and joined First Baptist Church of Pincher Creek in November 1959. He seldom missed a service and served as Board Member and Treasurer for many years.
