Pilsworth: Wilfrid Gordon
1931-2018
On July 2, 2018 early in the morning, at the Riverpark Retirement Residence, Wilfs wife Diana, and sons Gregory, Christopher and Bryan said their final goodbye to a dear husband and father for the last time. Throughout his one year stay at the Riverpark Retirement Residence, Wilf received the gentle tender care of a wonderful staff. Almost to the end, with his family present to hold his hand and comfort him, he was resting comfortably and peacefully. He lived a full life and left us at the age of 87, just short of his and Diana’s 60th wedding anniversary.
Wilf, the son of Edward and Roxy Pilsworth, brother of Alan Pilsworth and of sister Carol Raymond, (all now deceased) was born in Toronto in 1931. His father passed away when Wilf was 10 years old and thus he took on the responsibility at a very young age of helping his widowed mother. Whether he was delivering newspapers, or stocking shelves at the nearby
A and P grocery store, he did whatever he could to contribute to his family’s well being.
As Wilf grew into a young man, he met his future wife, Diana on a blind date in Toronto. Diana was a studying at the University of Toronto while Wilf was employed by the Ford Motor Company. Diana and Wilf were immediately smitten with each other, and two years later were married on October 11th, 1958, at St Monica’s Anglican Church in Toronto. After their marriage, they lived in Toronto, Windsor, and finally in 1968, settled in the new community of Kanata, Ontario where they have resided ever since.
Wilf had a long career with Bell Canada and was meaningfully employed in many aspects of the emerging telecommunications industry. After his retirement, Wilf became the co-founder of the highly successful West End Learning Unlimited which have provided many fascinating lectures for Kanata seniors over the years on a wide variety of topics. This innovative series continues to flourish with more than 165 active members.
Pilsworth: Wilfrid
Wilf will be remembered by many as a loyal member the Britannia Yacht Club where he was a strong supporter and for many years, an avid sailor of his yacht “Magic”.
Wilf was a very special husband and father. He will be so sadly missed by his wife Diana and their three sons: Gregory (Lisa Shishis), Christopher and Bryan (Ann Marie Borthwick). His grandchildren: Griffin Kazmer, Maia Kazmer-Shishis, Zoe Pilsworth, and Jack and Henry Pilsworth will now be without a very special and loving grandfather.
Wilf’s niece Nancy Foster (Joe), and nephews, Tom (Kathy), Graham (Jamie) and Doug Pilsworth, all part of the Pilsworth family, will remember and value the special times they shared with their uncle over the years.
The family sincerely appreciates the staff of the Riverpark Retirement Residence who provided exceptional care, support and love not only to Wilf but also to Diana.
Donations to Parkinson Canada or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
A memorial service for Wilf will take place at St. John’s Anglican Church, 325 Sandhill Road, on
Monday July 9, at 11:00 a.m. Guests are welcome to arrive before the service at 10:00 am.
A reception will follow the service from 12:30 to 2:30 at the nearby Brookstreet Hotel,
525 Legget Drive. Parking is available.
