Lovingly Remembered
January 24, 1926 – Stettler, Alberta
February 03, 2018 – Calgary Alberta
Walter passed away peacefully at Agape Hospice. Walter was married to Evelyn in 1950. They were together over 65 years until Evelyn’s passing in 2015. Now they are together forever.
Walter is survived by his sister Eleanor, son Grant (Jennifer), daughter Debbie (Terry): grandchildren and great-Grandchildren Duaine (Jo), Phil (Courtney), Matt (Bobbi), Heather (Ben), Roger, Poppy, Emma, Andy, Ivy, Julius, Josh, Chris, Jason, William, Hailey, Marcus
In his younger years Walter attended the McKay School for the Deaf. He was a past President of the Calgary Association of the Deaf (CAD). He was recognized for his dedicated work in the establishment of the Edmonton Association of the Deaf (EAD). Walter was the 3rd honorary member of the Alberta Deaf Sports Association in recognition of his contribution and voluntary services toward ADSA and Deaf Sports in Alberta.
Walter had a big heart for his family. He loved to go to family events and family reunions. He attended most Green-Allen family reunions for decades until recently when his health did not permit him to do so. Walter and Evelyn loved road trips around the country and abroad. Trips with the deaf community and trips with family included places like England, Israel, Fort McMurray, Waterton, Yukon, Alaska, Yellowstone, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, BC, Quebec, Arizona, Washington, California, etc.
Walter was generous especially to his family. He had a sense of humour with a good laugh. He had a great smile that came with a twinkle in his blue eyes. He had good hair to the end. He had passion. He also had a fiery temper. He had a good sense of fair play. Walter was not wealthy in material things, but he was a rich man because of his family and friends.
There is much more that can be said about this man and his life. He will be missed by those he left behind. He is in a better place now. God bless him. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Salvation Army (Agape Hospice).
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Walter Robert Johnson 2018.source
