With a sad heart we announce the passing of Walter Morris Oakford. Walter was predeceased by his parents William (Hap) Oakford and Eleanor Hanna Oakford, and his sister Marilyn Strom. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary White, his children Chris Oakford (Carl McDonald), Carol Harris (Gerry) and Brad Oakford, his grandchildren Shaun (Brett), Danny (Heidi), Melissa (Matt Wolfe), Chelsea and Sonny, great-grandchildren Riley, Evelyn, Isabella, Jack and Mobius, his sister Dorothy Luscombe, brother Bill Oakford (Laura), Mary’s sons Stephen (Shawn), Graham, and Richard, Mary’s grandchildren Angela, Teagan and Dominic, and daughter-in-law Catherine. Wally grew up in South Burnaby, attending Kingsway West and Burnaby South High Schools (class 1953). Wally was a good friend to all and a man who loved his family and the many friends he made over his lifetime. He could always be counted on to keep in touch and to lend a hand. Wally was proud to have worked as a Journeyman Plasterer, with the last 20 years of his working life at UBC. Wally brought up his family in Coquitlam where he built the family home himself. He moved to Richmond to be with Mary. His life dream was to own a cabin on a lake in BC’s interior. He was able to realize that dream when he bought property at Glimpse Lake in 1979 and built his dream cabin where he enjoyed 20 years in fishing paradise. On retirement, he and Mary moved to Roberts Creek and built a lovely home. In his last years he enjoyed life watching the wildlife from the window and volunteering at the Chapman Creek Fish Hatchery. He was an avid fisherman, meticulous at fly tying, and Mary called him « the best handyman in the world ». . « GONE FISHING »
