W. Ronald Vernon
March 12, 1916 – September 19, 2018
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Ronald, peacefully on September 19, 2018, age 102, in Touchmark Health Services Neighborhood in Edmonton.
He was predeceased by his first wife Helen, who he married in 1941, two days before he left for four years in England with the RCAF. They were married for more than 55 years before Helen passed away in 1997. He will be lovingly remembered by Helen’s sister Muriel, who he married in 1998, sons Gary (Christine), Roger (Laura): grandchildren Claire and Andrew, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Ron was an outgoing and entrepreneurial man who loved to travel and fish in Canada’s Rockies and elsewhere. He had an infectious smile and optimistic outlook that brightened the days of those around him. He was always up for a road trip, even at age 101. He graduated from the University of Alberta in Electrical Engineering in 1949, and built a career in sales as a manufacturer’s representative before teaming up with business associates to form a company now known as International Cooling Tower Inc.; still owned and operated by his long- time friend and business associate Doug Baron.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 13, at 2:30 p.m. at Touchmark at Wedgewood, 18333 Lessard Rd N.W. Edmonton.
The family is grateful to the staff at Touchmark for their care in Dad’s last year.
Memorial donations may be made to the University of Alberta, Faculty of Engineering, or a charity of one’s choice.
