In Loving Memory of
Velma Helen Orban passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2018, surrounded by her family who loved her. She suffered with increasingly poor health for several years and is now with her Lord and Saviour.
She was predeceased by her parents John and Mary Jakabffy; her sister Anne Benko; and the love of her life husband Andrew Orban. Although dad passed almost 40 years ago, she never stopped missing him.
Velma is survived by her son’s Jerry (Cindy) and Rick (Luana); five grandchildren, Joanne (Bob) King and Chris (Jen) in Kelowna; Teale (Jes), Taylor (Dawna) and Ali all in Regina; five great grandchildren Cole, Tyler, Cashten, Brynlee and Hayes; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Velma worked for over 30 years at the Pasqua Hospital where she retired from 24 years ago.
Her greatest joy was her family. She spent many hours attending an endless array of sporting events and dance recitals for her grandchildren. It became a general expectation to pick up grandma on route to the next game. She loved watching the Riders on TV and was usually on the phone within seconds to complain about the bad reffing if her team lost.
But mom/grandma will always be remembered for producing the best Sunday suppers anywhere. It was always expected that several main courses would be prepared and everyone’s favourite dessert as well, even if that meant she had to make three different varieties of pies. We will miss the incredible smell of walking into her house on those special days.
A huge thank you goes out to the dedicated staff on 4 West at Pioneer Village. The family is deeply grateful for the care and attention showed to her by the staff.
A CELEBRATION OF VELMA’S LIFE will take place at Living Hope Alliance Church, 3900 Arcola Ave East, on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Velma to the Living Hope Alliance Church Compassion Fund.
