Dad was a War Veteran who passed away peacefully at Inglewood Care Facility with his Granddaughters, Rachelle and Tara singing him hymns! Predeceased by his wife Helen in 2016, whom he met during his time at Camp Shilo, prior to being discharged in 1945. Dad graduated from Magee and U.B.C. before moving to Vernon where he taught school for 11 years. In 1957 the Family relocated to North Vancouver, where he taught until retirement in 1982. Dad was an active member of Highland United Church for many years, before becoming a Soldier with the Salvation Army. His love for music began with the Kitsilano Boys Band and he continued playing his Euphonium in the “Pops” and Salvation Army Bands and was a member of Silver Harbour. His main hobby though, was building Wooden Rocking Horses in the basement of his Cheviot home. The nine Grandchildren all received horses, and the other 111 were given to Friend’s Children or donated to worthy organizations, like the Lions Gate Hospital. When he wasn’t making horses, he would be gardening or teaching Children and Adults alike on how to build Bird Houses & Bird Feeders. A true Gentleman, always polite and well dressed. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. The family would like to extend our appreciation to Dr. Susan Chow and all the staff at Inglewood Care Facility for their loving care. There will be a celebration of Life on Saturday December 1st at 1:30pm 2018 at the Salvation Army Church – 12th and Lonsdale in North Vancouver. By request, in lieu of flowers, donations in Dad’s honour may be made to the Salvation Army. Adios Dad! Love Don, Bob and Gerry.
