Obituary Overview
Thomas (Tom) Phillip Kosheluk
Thomas (Tom) Phillip Kosheluk
February 26, 1946 – March 10, 2018
After a valiant 4-year long battle with lung cancer, it is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Thomas (Tom) Phillip Kosheluk on March 10, 2018 at the age of 72.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters and their spouses Lori (Steed), Kari (Dallas), grandsons Jordan and Keanan, sisters and brothers-in-law Jean (Ed) and Deborah (Glen), sister-in-law Gwen and numerous nieces, nephews and their children. He is predeceased by his parents Michael (1992) and Mary (2016); brother Ronald (2014). He will be especially missed by his cat, Casper.
As a young man Tom joined a band in 1963 called the Association. He played rhythm with his red electric guitar at gigs such as the Pink Panther Club in Transcona and other places around Winnipeg. He also worked part-time for South Side Lumber and enjoyed riding his motorcycle.
Tom enjoyed spending time outdoors camping with his family on weekends in Gimli where he fished, golfed, played cards, whittled wood by the fire, and splashed around in the lake with his children. He was also an avid bowler and many would say he was an excellent dancer – especially to Ukrainian polkas and waltzes.
One of Tom’s greatest passions was old cars. In 1979 he purchased a beat-up 1958 Cadillac and restored it back to life. He was also a member of the Fabulous 50’s Ford Club of Manitoba for many years and proudly showed off his car at events around Manitoba. Tom also enjoyed going out for dinner with family and friends and visiting Club Regent Casino. His other interests included building model cars and collecting Elvis memorabilia.
Tom was devoted to his career. After finishing high school, he attended the University of Manitoba – graduating in 1971 as a Certified Management Accountant. In 1979 he opened his own accounting practice, T.P. Kosheluk and Associates, in downtown Transcona. In the early 1990s, Tom took a break from his accounting career to try his hand in real estate. After getting his broker’s licence in 1994, he joined Kehler Realty as an agent. In 1998, he started his own company, Aspen Realty, which he successfully operated for 10 years. Tom returned to accounting and continued providing services to his long-time clients well into his 70s while battling cancer.
Special thanks to his palliative nurse Richard, the Cancer Care doctors at HSC, and the medical team at Riverview Health Centre for their compassion and excellent care.
Funeral Service will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodière Blvd, on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Viewing will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 pm at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
