Obituary for
Sukhdev Singh Bhella
Bhella, Sukhdev « Dave » Singh (January 7, 1941- November 25, 2018)
After a long and courageous battle with dementia, Daddy passed away peacefully with family by his side on November 25, 2018 at Valleyview Nursing Home at the age of 77. Predeceased by his parents Rattan Singh Bhella and Vidya Bhella. He will be forever missed by his devoted wife of 42 years, Chanroutie, and his two daughters, Rita and Sita. He will be missed dearly by his loyal dog, Lucky, whom Daddy named since « we were Lucky to have him. » He will be missed greatly by his brothers Mittar, Raghubir, Hardial, Hargopal, and his sister, Surinder, and all of his nieces and nephews and extended family. Born in Punjab, India, Daddy’s adventurous nature brought him to England where he met his wife after a chance encounter on the subway. They eventually moved to Canada, where they raised their two daughters and where he worked as an engineer. Daddy loved dancing, technology and debating . There was no math puzzle that would go unsolved by him. He will be sorely missed.
We would like to express our overwhelming gratitude to the nurses, RPNs, PSWs and staff at Valleyview Nursing Home for the care they provided to our father. Our mother would like to especially acknowledge Sue, the RPN who was there in Mom’s hours of need and Dr. Nicholas Christidis who supported our wishes and provided great emotional support.
We would also like to express our gratitude to our PSWs from CCAC, George, Frank and Mahmoud, and all the staff of the Valleyview Day Program. We would also like to especially thank Petros, Michael and Lisa of Lumacare.
A Celebration of Dad’s life will be held on Sunday, December 2 at Brampton Crematorium and Visitation Centre, 30 Bramwin Crescent from 12-2, followed by service at the Gurdwara Dasmesh Darbar at 4555 Ebenezer Road.
In lieu of flowers, to honour Dad’s memory, donations may be made by cheque in his name to Project Lifesaver . Cheques can be mailed to York Regional Police – Community Services, 47 Don Hillock Drive, Aurora, Ontario, L4G 0S7.
