Stanley George Schock
1939 – 2018
It is with extreme sadness we announce the passing of Stanley George Schock of Cranbrook, BC. He passed peacefully during the early hours of Friday, June 1st, 2018 at East Kootenay Regional Hospital after suffering complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He was 78.
Stan was born at Shell Lake, Saskatchewan to the late George and Myrtle Schock on August 21st, 1939. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Sharon Schock, and his three children Roxanne Mallard (Jordan), Rhonda Schock (Jeff) and Kevin Schock (Robyn). He is also survived by his grandchildren Caitlin Pighin (Brandon), Jennifer Scarff (Brent), Colin and Rory Mallard, Jacob and Jordan Petrini, Alyssa, Keira and Danica Schock and great grandchildren Lexyss and Chet Pighin and Halle Scarff. He was born into a large family and surviving him are his siblings Louis Schock (Leona), Leonard Schock (Shirley), Joyce Guay (Noel), Sylvia Medvesky (John), Doreen Feduniw (Arsen) and Dail Fusick (Bill). Surviving him also is his brother-in-law Arnold Nielsen and sister-in-law Connie Schock. He was predeceased by his sister Louise Nielsen and brother Lawrence Schock. He will also be missed by numerous loving relatives.
Stan was a farm boy raised in Saskatchewan and had a knack for inventing things to make life easier. He loved to work with wood and cement and was always building or fixing something. Repairmen were never hired if he could help it. At age 20 he joined the RCMP, training in Regina, and then was stationed in Nelson, BC. His career took him all over BC including postings in Cranbrook, Trail, Kamloops, Victoria, Prince Rupert, Fernie, Parksville and North Vancouver, although he did spend 3 years in Ottawa. He was awarded the Order of Bravery for saving a girl’s life while off duty, and was a very respected individual. He retired as a Staff Sergeant at age 55, after 35 years of service and moved to Cranbrook, BC where his children lived, and enjoyed working on his inventions and projects. He also loved music, playing the saxophone and banjo, and was a member of the local Barbershop Quartet for a number of years. He also participated in singing in numerous church choirs.
A memorial mass for Stan will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 11:00 am at Christ The Servant Catholic Church in Cranbrook with Father de Dios officiating. Family and friends are welcome to a gathering with snacks and refreshments following the service in the church hall.
