Shirley MacLaren
1944-2018
Shirley Elizabeth MacLaren (nee Ryan), born March 30, 1944
passed peacefully at Glen Haven Manor in New Glasgow on December 22,
2018. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Kelly Anne and
Kelly’s father, Cyril MacLaren. Also surviving are sister,
Patricia (William) Hughes and brother, Denis (Marguerite)
Ryan.
She
was predeceased by her parents, Mary Agnes « Aggie »
(MacKinnon) and George Alexander « Sandy », sisters: Anne
Riggs, Audrey Gladney, Joyce MacDonald and Hectorina Ryan as well as
brothers: Donald, George Edward « Dim », Bernard
« Bud » Ryan and many nieces, nephews and
cousins.
From
an early age, Shirley knew what her purpose and passion in life would
be, graduating at the top of her class from St. Rita’s
Hospital School of Nursing as an R.N. She would later graduate from
St. F.X. in the first cohort of the distance learning B.Sc.N program
and wore her « X » ring with great pride. She spent the
majority of her career in the O.R. at the Aberdeen Hospital. In her
spare time, she enjoyed gardening in the summer time and skating in
the winter. Her love of music and singing would often find her in the
choir at Christ the King church which she attended for many
years.
She
will be dearly missed by those who loved and knew her but she is now
with the Lord in whom her faith was strong. The family would like to
thank the staff at Glen Haven Manor who gave her such excellent care
when she could no longer care for herself.
A
funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic
Church in Stellarton on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 2 pm with a
reception to follow in the Sister Catherine Steele Centre. Donations
in her memory may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements are
under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home,
Trenton.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Shirley MacLaren 19442018..
