Ruth Elizabeth Gillis (née Kiefl)
(1921 – 2018)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Elizabeth Gillis (Kiefl) on August 1st in her 98th year. Ruth was surrounded by her adoring family when she went peacefully into the arms of our Lord. Born and raised in Ottawa, Ruth was one of the early female graduates from the University of Ottawa where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree. At Lake Clear, she met the love of her life Tom, her husband of 71 years, and together they raised seven children. Predeceased by Tom and their daughter Laurie McLeish (Rob), she will be lovingly remembered by her children Kevin (Sally), Mark (Valerie), Nancy Grills (Doug), Paul (Sandra), Stephen (Monique) and Tom. She will also be sadly missed by her 15 grandchildren Carrie, Andy, Karla, Danny (Laura), Chelsea, Scott (Amanda), Sara (Tony), Michael (Tiffany), Jesse, Massimo, Thomas, Jonathan, Benoit, Zachary and Olivia; and 5 great-grandchildren Harlow, Sam, Gordon, Griffin and Alice. Aunt Ruth will be fondly remembered by her many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
Heartfelt thanks are extended to the nurses and caregivers at Granite Ridge for their wonderful kindness, compassion and support. Ruth’s warm, welcoming spirit and gentle sense of humour touched all those who were fortunate to have met her.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Parish (1489 Shea Road, Stittsville, ON) on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 10:00am.
Interment to St. Francis Xavier Parish Cemetery, Renfrew, ON, for 2:00pm.
Memorial donations to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute are appreciated.
