1922 ~ 2018
Rosina May Dunford, 96 years of age, passed away at the Whitemouth Personal Care Home on June 27th, after struggling with the horrors of dementia for several years.
May was born on May 30, 1922 in Swan River, Manitoba, and grew up in Winnipeg during The Great Depression. She was the youngest child and second daughter to Margaretta and Arthur Taylor. May married her childhood sweetheart Bill Dunford on January 1, 1940, as he was preparing to leave for training and then on to fight in Europe during World War II.
May was predeceased by husband Bill, son James, daughter Lori Robb (Don), her parents, sisters Margaret Balogh and Helen, brothers Kenny, Arthur, Leslie, and Ted, sisters-in-law Kay and Doris.
Mum leaves behind a family that will miss her dearly; sons Wayne (Diana), Del (Peggy) and Trevor, friend and devoted daughter Lynn Patterson (Don). Also mourning her passing are her special friends and grandchildren, Chris Patterson Betker (Luke), Kevin Patterson (Ardelle), David Robb (Shantell), Alaina Ross (Shawn), Curtis Dunford (Pam), William Dunford (Kseniya), Jamie Clinton (Ryan), Julie Fredrickson (Doug) and Robyn Wellman (Scott) and 13 great-grandchildren. Her memory will be cherished always by her nieces and nephews who live across Canada and have actively participated in her life.
Mum came to Pinawa in 1963, a year after Dad had been working and living there part time, and commuting to Winnipeg on weekends while mum held down the fort with 6 kids. They spent many years in Pinawa raising family, golfing in Pinawa and around the province, loving the life they could never have imagined when they started out all those long years past.
Internment will be a private service in Pinawa. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Equal Opportunities West in May’s name, or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Manitoba.
