Rose-Mary “Mae” Houlden
Mae passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 29th, 2018 at the Concordia Hospital, Winnipeg, MB.
Family was most important to Mom and she was happiest when in the company of anyone who liked to share a cup of coffee and never-ending stories. Mom could be often found curled up with a good book and a bag of candies. She spent many hours with her crochet hook creating beautiful projects for her family that will be cherished forever. Mae was a Jets fan and enjoyed watching hockey and cheering for her team.
Mom was known to say what was on her mind and never hesitated to share her feelings or thoughts with anyone. Her stubborn ways allowed her to overcome many struggles with her health over the years and, also contributed to the strength she leaves behind with her family.
We will miss you Mom, remember you with love and look forward to the day when we will sit with you again and share a cup of coffee at your table. Keep the porch light on Mom, one by one we will meet you at home once again.
Mom is survived by her children Darin (Candi), Grant (Gail) and Carol-Lyn. She was predeceased by her partner David Paul in 2003, her daughter Irene in 2016 and her great-grandson Hunter in 2013. Nanny will be missed by her numerous grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Mom had a special place in her heart for David’s children and their families. Also left to mourn her passing are her brother Fred Houlden and her sister Emily Houlden. Mom was predeceased by her father Samuel and mother Laura, her sisters Kathleen and Susan and her brothers Thomas, Johnny and Sammy. Auntie Mae will also be missed by all her nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Thursday evening, August 2nd, 2018 from 7:00 – 8:00 for a visitation at the Omega Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 3rd, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Road S., Portage la Prairie, MB.
