Richard “Rick” Sweetland Meston
June 18th, 1948 – December 12th, 2018
On Wednesday, December 12, 2018, Rick passed away at home with his immediate family and close friends after a lengthy battle with ALS.
Rick leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 47 years Frances, daughters Jodie of London, England and Kerri (Gary) Babcook of Warburg, granddaughter Taylor Babcook of Leduc, brothers Dave of Drayton Valley, Scott (Debbie) of Nanton and sister Tracy Grinde of Drayton Valley as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and many good friends.
Rick was predeceased by his parents Walt and Olive Meston of Drayton Valley, his sister Gail Keith of Calgary, niece Lindsay Gray and nephew James Gray.
Rick was born in Trochu, Alberta and raised his whole life in the Drayton Valley area. He operated two successful businesses, Rick’s Source for Sports and Big West Farm & Ranch, with the help of his family. Rick had a lifelong interest in horses and was known for his well trained horses. He was also well known for his guitar playing and singing and enjoyed entertaining others. His greatest joy in life was his two daughters who he took such great pride in.
In honour of Rick’s wishes a Private Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the ALS Society of Alberta, 5418-97 St., Edmonton, AB T6E 5C1
