Richard Joseph Rafferty
Richard J.
Rafferty, 88, of Moncton, passed away peacefully at The Moncton
Hospital on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. Born in McAdam, he was the son
of John James and Cecilia (Shields)
Rafferty.
Richard
retired in January 1986 as a Car Shop Foreman with CN and attended St.
Augustine’s Roman Catholic
Church.
Throughout
his life, Dick volunteered countless hours to St.
Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, Ray of Hope Needy
Kitchen, St. Patrick’s Family Centre, Knights of Columbus,
Hoop Classic Boys’ Basketball Tournaments and most recently
with Peoples Park Tower and was a member of the CNR Pensioners
Association and the Air Force Veterans Club. Dick enjoyed spending
time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and summers at the
family cottage at Parlee Beach.
Richard will
be sadly missed by his three daughters, Colleen Rafferty, Nancy
Squires and Kerry Firth (Dwayne); son, Richard Rafferty (Angela);
grandchildren, Kathleen and Laura Squires, Keira and Liam Rafferty,
Molly Firth; brothers, Jack Rafferty (Pauline) Peter Rafferty (late
Kaye) and Phillip Rafferty (late Kay); brother-in-law, Terry Whalen
(Hazel); sister-in-law, Dee Dee Whalen and by several nieces and
nephews.
In addition
to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Agnes Rafferty (2012)
and brothers-in-law, Jim Whalen, John (Bernice) Whalen and Joe
Whalen.
Visitation
at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on
Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Mass at St.
Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, 340 Dominion St., on
Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 am with Rev. Allison Carroll
presiding. Reception in the Church Hall following Mass. Interment will
be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery later in the
spring.
