Dear, Dear Family and Friends,
Today is one of the hardest of days for me. I must sit down and tell you that my amazing husband and partner of almost 34 years, Randall Dean Lang, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, May 28th , 2018, at our home.
Randy (don’t ever call him Randall!) was born in North Bay, Ontario May 30th, 1944 to Dan (Joseph) Lang and Noreen (Morin) Lang, but spent his formative years in Thunder Bay, before venturing out. He was a very entrepreneurially spirited man and had tried several different occupations and businesses on for size.
His last venture was here in Tillsonburg as owner of a cab company, called “Why Wait?” It was a perfect fit. He loved to drive and he loved people. I don’t believe that Randy ever met a stranger-only people who would become his new friends. I have never-ever-met another person (except for his beloved mother) who could charm and befriend people as only they could. This was their gift. Randy was unjudgemental, kind and gentle. We’d have a lot more peace in this world if there were more Randys.
Randy was predeceased by both of his parents and his eldest sister, Deanna Baxendale and her husband Doug Baxendale. Randy’s remaining family (beside myself) consists of a wonderful daughter, Karee Lang, whose husband is Brad Haughey of Oakville and their two children, Charlotte and Benjamin, whom he adored dearly. His oldest brother, Jim Lang and his wife , Donna Lang and their combined families live in Victoria, B.C. His younger brother, Michael Lang and his wife Barb Lang and their son are in Thunder Bay, Ontario. And his youngest sister, Kathryn Drake, is in Winnipeg, with children in Winnipeg and Saskatoon. There are so many nieces and nephews I would run out of paper wanting to include them all.
Randy would often tell people that his hands were made to bowl, golf and hold cards, and he did all of them passionately. Whether he was playing golf or bridge, Randy was out to win, count on it! As time and his health took its toll and he was unable to participate in those things, he spent a lot of his time watching others golf or play baseball (Blue Jays) or hockey (Maple Leafs). He loved to watch sports. It’s strange how things turn out. We’d sold our home in Tillsonburg and had bought a condo in St. Catharines (Ontario) recently. Randy was so excited to be beginning a new chapter in our lives. One with so many less responsibilities, a chance to spend more time enjoying life and friends. Unfortunately, he won’t be coming with me.
I had already begun the packing, selling, moving routine. Our house is inside out. Frankly, it looks like we’ve been hit by a tornado. I wish I could tell our Tillsonburg friends that we would be holding a Celebration of Life here, but with Randy’s family so spread out, they’ll need some time to arrange and come, and with my house inside out, I’ve decided that we will Celebrate Randy in Niagara, once I’m a bit settled, hopefully in August. So I would ask that you be a bit patient with me and keep in touch so you can be included, if you wish to join in the Celebration of Randy.
In closing, I would like everyone to share a thought or story with me on this web site. Since Randy has passed on, I’ve already been told two great stories I’d never heard before from my Aunt Lorraine and one from my cousin, Orlando. I’d love to hear from you all.
And lastly, as Randy was a diabetic heart patient, if you wish to make a memorial donation, these would be Randy’s choices, I’m confident.
Hopefully, Randy is having a golf game with my dad in heaven right now.
God’s peace and blessings to you all.
Love, Lila
