Obituary of Pierina Ongaro
PIERINA FILOMENA (Battaglini) ONGARO (b.1929 – d.2018)
Surrounded by her family, Pierina passed away on June 26, 2018 in her 90th
year. She was predeceased by her husband Dovino Ongaro.
She is survived by her son Andrea (Shelagh) and their son and her only
grandchild, Zachary, all from Newmarket.
Also survived by her brother, Rafaele (Nicoletta) Battaglini of London,
brother-in-law Ernesto (Augusta) Ongaro from Argentina, sister-in-law
Giuditta Ongaro of Toronto and brother-in-law Arturo (d.Elida) (d.Mary) Ongaro from
New Jersey. Predeceased by Erminio (Gina) Ongaro, Federico (Rina) Ongaro,
Osvaldo Ongaro, Liugi (Marianna Ongaro) D’Andrea. Born in Pacentro, Italy
to Giuseppe Battaglini and Rosa (Di Pilla).
Pierina emigrated from Italy to Canada in the mid 1950’s where she met and
married the love of her life, Dovino Ongaro. Together they built a happy
life together in London. They raised their only son, Andrea. Pierina
ensured that the home was filled with love and laughter. She always
welcomed family and friends and served a bounty of delicious food and
drink for all.
Pierina will be missed by all of her nieces and nephews, extended family
and many friends. Pierina, we will miss the sound of your laughter and the
sparkle in your eyes when you smiled.
Visitors will be received at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362
Waterloo Street, London on Friday, June 29th, 2018 from 7-9 o’clock.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, 377 Oakland Avenue on
Saturday, June 30th, 2018 at 9 o’clock. Entombment in Holy Family
Mausoleum – St. Peter’s Cemetery, 806 Victoria Street, London, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and
Stroke Foundation or London Health Sciences Foundation ‘Emergency Services
Department’ would be greatly appreciated.
A huge thank you goes out to the amazing doctors and nurses in the
Emergency Department at University Hospital in London. You were all
superheroes showing skill, kindness and compassion.
