It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul Joseph Currie of Dominion at the age of 74. Paul passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Glace Bay Hospital with loved ones at his side.
Born in Glace Bay Paul is the son of Bernadette (Corbett) and the late Melvin Currie.
In Paul’s earlier years he lived in Toronto and had his own business for many years. He was a proud member of the Militia. Returning to Cape Breton Paul was employed in the construction and cement industry. He loved to play darts, bingo and cards. Paul was an ordinary member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 78 in Dominion.
Paul was a son, husband, father, uncle, brother, grand & great grandfather. He had unending love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren and they will miss their poppy.
Paul will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda (Vokey) Currie, his children, daughter, Danette Currie Hynes (Wayne), Glace Bay, sons, Vernon, Glace Bay, Troy (Christine), Toronto, 12 cherished grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Paul was born into a large family and is survived by his 4 brothers, Melvin, Angus, John, Sheldon, 6 sisters, Arlene, Mary Anne, Stephanie, Beverly, Anita and Doreen.
As well as his father, Melvin Currie, Paul was predeceased by sisters, Lillian, Estelle and daughter-in-law, Suzanne Currie.
In keeping with Paul’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation for Paul will held 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13th in J.M. Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main Street, Glace Bay (849-7617). A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery followed by a reception at Branch 78 Legion, Neville Street, Dominion. Donations in Paul’s memory maybe made to the Lung Association .
We would like to thank the members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 78 for their generosity. Also to the doctors, VON, nurses, home care and Palliative Care for their care of Paul over the years. Condolences to the Currie family my be sent to www.currysfuneralhome.com
Paul will always be remembered for his hardy laugh and gentle spirit.
