Obituary Overview
Paul Frederick Mason
Mason, Paul Frederick – Fall River ~ It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father and grandfather on November 3, 2018. Paul was born in Kidlington, England on January 3, 1944 and immigrated to Canada in June 1949 through Pier 21 in Halifax. Paul grew up in St. Margaret’s Bay and attended Halifax West, Saint Mary’s University (B.Comm) and Dalhousie University (B.Ed). He began his teaching career at Westmount school in Halifax and soon went on to teach at Georges P. Vanier in Fall River. He spent most of his career teaching at both Sackville High School and Millwood High School in Lower Sackville. After his retirement he continued to substitute teach because he “missed the kids” and spent most of that time at Lockview High in Fall River. Paul had a great ability to tell a story. He could take something mundane and spin it in such a way that he could capture anyone’s attention. His personality was a big one and his wonderful sense of humour added to it. He always said, “if you don’t have a sense of humour about life, what is left?” He also said that it came in
handy in being a lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Growing up in St. Margaret’s Bay he developed a love of the outdoors. He was happiest when he was in the woods hunting or on a river, lake or ocean fishing. He had an ear for music and was a self-taught musician, who played many instruments.
He was always keen to try to learn how to play a new one. He spent many hours playing music with his brothers over the past few years, times he thoroughly enjoyed. What Paul enjoyed most was sharing his interests with his children and his grandchildren. Even if they didn’t share his passion for all of them, they could not deny that they enjoyed the time spent together and that something was always learned. He was extremely proud of both of his children and his grandchildren and made sure that they always knew how much they were loved. Paul is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Rob Ward) and son, Paul (Gian); grandchildren, Joshua, Ethan, Tatum, Owen, & Ayva; brothers, Jim
(Marilyn) Mason and Chris (Cathy) Mason; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas & Agnes (Kitz) Mason and his wife, Lois (Oland) Mason. There will be no funeral service by request. A private interment will take place at Oakridge Memorial Gardens with family at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to the Canadian Cancer Society, Nova Scotia Division. Condolences, words of comfort, memories of Paul may be shared with the family at: www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com Sackville Chapel
