Obituary
Norah Winnifred Dennis
Norah Winnifred Dennis (nee Parlett), aged 94 years, passed away peacefully in her sleep during the morning of Friday, June 22,2018. Up to her passing, Norah was a resident at the Brock Fahrni Pavillion in Vancouver. Norah was predeceased by her mother Florence Engley (1970), sister Helen Foster (1994), and elder sister Florence Parlett (2015). Remaining to cherish her memory are her sons Robert, Stephen (Lori), Michael, David (Carmen), and only daughter Lisa Lambert (Lindon). Norah’s family also includes nephews John Foster (Maureen), and their daughter Shannon, and Graeme Foster (Norma) with son Blake. The brightest lights in Norah’s life were her eight grandchildren. Norah loved the family times, parties, and visits whenever one or more of the kids were there to see Nan, or Nanna Dennis. She held a special place in her heart for Dave’s son Brendan, Lisa’s children Sydney, Garth, and Sarah, and of course Mike’s kids Matteo, Ava, Adamo, and young Mikey. The wonderful young people returned their love in many ways. Norah was born in England. She and her two sisters, Peggy and Helen served in the second World War. Norah is an RAF Veteran, and was given very good care by the various agencies over the past years as she aged. Norah along with her mother Florence and Peggy immigrated to Canada in 1949, following Helen, who moved to Canada in 1944 with her husband Ken Foster. For the most part, they all settled in Vancouver. Norah met Jim Dennis on a date in Vancouver. They were married in June 1951 and had a busy life living mostly in the Dunbar district of Vancouver. In 1968 the family moved to Winnipeg, and while there Norah and the family met some very good friends. The family relocated back to B.C. about 10 years later. Norah and Jim eventually divorced upon their return to B.C. Norah took up residence in the West End in an apartment on Comox St. and once again made friends in the community. Norah was a happy soul and a positive influence in all our lives. She was hardworking, determined and humorous. Norah loved to dance on outings and always sang while she cleaned the house. She loved all cats and dogs. The family pets always bonded with Norah first and foremost. A very heartfelt thank-you to the staff at St. Vincent’s Brock Fahrni Pavillion, especially the nurses and health care workers on the fourth-floor wing. Norah had considerable disabilities as time went on. The staff always maintained and respected Norah’s dignity and wishes. Private cremation arrangements have been made. A Memorial service celebrating Norah’s life is being planned for later in the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CNIB, through the website at www.cnib.ca
