Nancy Ruth Wong
Wong (Stark), Nancy, age 75, of Waverley, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2018 at the Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Born in Digby, she was a daughter of the late Alda (Robicheau) and Otis Stark.
Nancy was a selfless woman who dedicated her life to making her family’s life better. During her working years, she and her husband, Joe, provided a place to live, a job at the House of Wong and their friendship for several young women who needed a fresh start. To many she could often be a strong-willed woman but to the ones she loved, she truly loved. When together with her sisters Glenda and Joye, and brothers, Hedley and Ronnie, one could always count on lively conversation full of sarcasm and humour. Nancy lived her life in Digby until 2004 when she moved to Waverley, NS to help raise her newly born grandson, Jacob, who was the shining star in her life. She vowed that he would never have a baby sitter until he went to school. She did just that and beyond, not unlike the way she was always there for her other 2 grandchildren, Matthew and Marki. She loved family gatherings, and her daughter in-law Marlene always made sure that she was the guest of honour. Both her son’s Butch and Brian were truly blessed to have a loving and forgiving mother especially in their teenage years. Important to mention, is her wonderful community of friends at Waverley Manor with whom she always enjoyed a game of cards. Her passing, however heartbreaking, released her from the pain and suffering of lung cancer. For that, we are thankful.
Nancy is survived by her sons, Butch (Kelly Rose) and Brian (Marlene Leyte); grandchildren, Matthew (Kim Dalrymple), Marki, and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Mason and Abby.
She is also survived by her sister Joye (Earl) Hudson; brothers Hedley (Pauline) Stark and Ronnie (Judy) Stark; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Joe Wong; and her sister Glenda (Tom) McAuley.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Saturday June 9, 2018 at the Baptist Cemetery on St. Mary’s St., Digby, Rev. Donald Robertson officiating. Reception to follow interment.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dartmouth General Foundation.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Dartmouth General Hospital, who provided such tremendous comfort, care and compassion in her final days.
