Myrtle Isabell Heron 2018

OBITUARY
Myrtle Isabell Heron
June 4, 1924 – July 29, 2018
HERON, Myrtle Isabel
(née McKenzie)
Myrtle passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at North Island Hospital Comox Valley.
She was born in 1924 to Jack and Ella McKenzie at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, BC. In 1913 this is the same hospital which her father “Big Jack” (a High Rigger for the Comox Logging Company) escorted the first Sisters of St. Joseph’s to by horse and buggy.
Myrtle is the granddaughter of Comox Valley pioneers, John McKenzie Sr. and Maude Cliffe and John Hawkins and Isabelle Graham.
She is predeceased by her husband Joseph Peter Heron and her grandson John Alexander Heron. Myrtle will be lovingly remembered by her four sons, Robert Heron (Jennifer) and their two daughters Lisa Heron (David) and Sandra Heron (Chris Edwards) and great grandchildren Hugh, Claire, Katherine and Sarah; Kelly Heron; Gerald Heron (Maria) and their children Vanessa and Peter Heron; and John Heron (Magdalin) and their daughter Samantha.
Myrtle met the love of her life, Peter Heron, a young RCAF Pilot and POW survivor at a dance in Courtenay, BC and were married on September 27, 1947.
Myrtle had a passion for music; she was a violinist of the Vancouver Island Orchestra and was always sharing her love of music with family and friends. Myrtle also had a passion for dance. At an early age she learned to dance with her Uncle Clifford Janes and was the happiest when gracefully dancing with her husband Peter.
She was a homemaker raising four boys which her cousin, Wilfred Janes, can attest were at times a handful. She was legendary for her pies.
For Myrtle the glass was always half full and she greatly enjoyed annual celebrations with the “Daughters of Samuel Cliffe”, as well as with friends and family.
As a proud pioneer of the Comox Valley, Myrtle asked that donations in her memory be made to the Comox Archives and Museum Society (1729 Comox Ave, Comox BC), the Canadian Red Cross or the BC Cancer Society. Please join us in remembering Myrtle by visiting our memorial at www.piercysmtwashingtonfuneral.com. At Myrtle’s request no service will be held.
Sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Jennifer Cortez and the wonderful nurses and staff at the Comox Valley Hospital.
