Upon returning to Nova Scotia, Murray was appointed the principal of Michael Wallace School, a position he held for seven years. In August 1967, he joined the Economic Welfare Department of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union. During his twenty years at the Teachers Union he held the positions of Executive Assistant and Assistant Executive Secretary. Murray’s responsibilities included negotiating contracts and being the staff liaison to committees, insurance trustees, the credit union, pensions and economic policy as well as the liaison for the Vocational Teachers Association. One of Murray’s and Connie’s highlights during retirement was opening a family restaurant, “Mom’s & Dad’s”, in the Fahie homestead in East Ship Harbour. After operating the restaurant for seven years they decided to fully retire and spend time with family and travel.
